I could go on and on and on about how much I love being in this city, but I don’t want to make anyone too jealous so I’ll try to contain it. I thought I would be homesick by now, but I’m having too good a time (knock on wood!). I’ve been so busy this past week. The Intensive Language Program started on Monday. I have about 4 hours of class each day—reading, grammar, oral comprehension, literature, and history. All five of the professors are great, especially the grammar professor. Even though I am a linguistics major, I never knew it was possible to make a simple grammar class so enthralling—this man is constantly making us laugh, and in 15 minutes he perfectly explained a concept that takes most U.S. Spanish teachers several weeks or months to explain (the use of the different past tenses—very complicated in this language!). I even took a picture of him while he wasn’t looking because he is the cutest man ever.
On Tuesday night my monitor Javi took us out to tapas on a rooftop terrace above a hotel. Then we went to a bar that had very creative mixed drinks! They mix it in this giant glass container and then you pour it into your mouth like this. Javi said it was very common for people to be going out to bars and discotecas on Tuesday nights…..
